Berlin, June 28, 2011 - Amazon has announced plans today for the establishment of a new Customer Service Center in Berlin. The new facility will create up to 400 permanent jobs over the next three years plus an additional 400 seasonal jobs during the peak sales seasons. The new center is slated to begin operations in July.
The Berlin location will be the second Customer Service Center in Germany and will provide service to Amazon.de customers together with the center in Regensburg. The building is located in the DomAquarée building in Berlin-Mitte. There, Amazon employees will answer customer inquiries via email and telephone as well as live, in an online chat. They will also provide technical support for the Amazon Kindle and MP3 stores.
"We are pleased to announce our decision to open a new Customer Service Center in Berlin," said Tim Hickler, Director of Customer Service for Europe. "Berlin is an outstanding location that offers us access to the kind of highly qualified personnel we need to provide the high standard services that our customers expect. We look forward to hiring new employees from the region starting immediately."
Berlin's Mayor Klaus Wowereit commented, "I welcome Amazon's plans to open a new Customer Service Center in Berlin. When a company with global operations chooses Berlin, it always reflects a positive evaluation of the conditions that Berlin offers businesses and the business climate in our city in general. The outstanding human capital in the region and our excellent infrastructure are what persuaded the company to locate their new center in the capital. That will create jobs in the city and benefit Berlin.”
René Gurka, Managing Director of Berlin Partner GmbH, said, "Amazon accepted the package Berlin offered, once again proving Berlin's attractiveness as a location for business. Global companies like Amazon are a calling card for Berlin and its strong services sector. Our investor services department assists companies moving to the city, giving them access to the labor market and helping them with their recruiting needs. Berlin's rich pool of highly qualified talent and the city's outstanding infrastructure contributed to Amazon's decision. We are pleased that up to 400 new long-term jobs will be created in Amazon's new Customer Service Center."
The central location in the heart of Germany's vibrant capital, the availability of highly qualified personnel, and the excellent public transportation infrastructure were the primary factors driving Amazon's decision to locate its new Customer Service Center in Berlin.
