IT companies of the capital region showcase their products and services at CeBIT

28.02.2011

A total of 128 exhibitors at this year’s CeBIT are IT companies from the capital region

The shared stands organized by Berlin Partner, ZukunftsAgentur Brandenburg and the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce and Industry focus on “Software” (Hall 2), “Innovations Market” (Hall 9) and “Telecommunications” (Hall 13).  35 companies have opted to present themselves at the stands for exhibitors from the Länder Berlin and Brandenburg, significantly more than last year.

The highlights include intelligent video surveillance software developed by the University of Applied Sciences Wildau, which independently recognizes accumulations of dirt or other damages (graffiti) to buildings, objects deposited or baggage left unattended, and attempts at sabotaging surveillance cameras.  The Wildau scientists also developed a multi-functional alarm clock that will wake a sleeper in varying stages of alarm and by different actions, and will subsequently monitor whether or not he or she has in fact gotten out of bed.  The Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin – University of Applied Sciences is showing its iSphere at the convention, a social network application, which is location based and mobile but does not require a server.  The Berlin company tentable has invented an interactive game in which real cans are thrown at a screen.  proventis GmbH, also from Berlin, has brought its web-based project management software “Blue Ant Version 8.2” and the “Blue Ant iPhone App” to Hanover.  These programs capture the hours worked on projects and the degree of their implementation.  LÜTH & DÜMCHEN Automatisierungsprojekt GmbH are presenting their solutions for access controls as well as the video surveillance of buildings and public spaces.

The managing director of ZukunftsAgentur Brandenburg, Dr. Steffen Kammradt stated, “The IT sector is among the growth industries in Brandenburg and Berlin.  Just recently, two major players have decided to invest in the capital region of Germany, NextiraOne Deutschland and SAP.  At CeBIT, the stakeholders of the Berlin and Brandenburg IT industry are demonstrating their ability to perform internationally, and are doing so quite impressively.”

René Gurka, managing director of Berlin Partner GmbH, emphasized, “The capital region is home to innovative IT companies – this is where new technologies are developed.  At more than 80 scientific institutes, computer science and software development are taught and scientific research is promoted.  The plans pursued by Deutsche Telekom are proof of how attractive our economic region is.  The group is expanding its activities in Berlin and will inaugurate the ‘Telekom School of Transformation’ next year.  And Google is planning to invest into a new Berlin ‘Institute for the Internet and Society’.”

Because it provides key technologies, the information and communications economy is highly significant to the Berlin-Brandenburg economic region.  More than 5,200 companies with approximately 61,000 employees offer IT solutions for commerce, industry and government administration.  International giants in the sector such as Siemens, IBM, Deutsche Telekom or SAP maintain offices in the capital region, as do numerous small and mid-sized companies (such as PSI, City & Bits, ]init[ or alfabet) and start-ups like Mister Wong.

Berlin Partner’s stand promoting the city as a location for the IT sector has been designed in keeping with the industry campaign “ich bin ein Berliner”.  This is part of the capital’s campaign beBerlin.  The posters hung in the convention center have been marked by a QR code, which CeBIT visitors can use to participate in a lottery.  The prize is a trip to Berlin in May to attend the Berlin Web Week.
