Mitte

The new district of Mitte was created on January 1st, 2001 through the incorporation of the three former districts of Mitte, Tiergarten and Wedding. The new Mitte is at once a metropolis and a neighborhood with a character all its own, the heart of a world city and a residential area. Its six urban quarters are home to the Bundestag, the Federal Government, embassies and banks, as well as numerous residential quarters, cozy corner taverns and Berlin's green lung - the Tiergarten.
