SciFi or reality?

What has long served as stories for science fiction is now finding its way into our everyday lives: everyone talks about quantum technologies (QT). Some areas, such as sensor technology and communication technology, are further developed than others (quantum computing) when it comes to concrete applications for companies and the economy.

At the same time, well-trained specialists and talents are increasingly in demand due to the development of new technologies. This is where the Quantum Future Academy (QFA) comes in: The QFA is a central element of the Quantum Future Programme, with which the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) addresses and promotes young talents from the field of quantum technologies. This year's Pan-European QFA took place in Berlin in the first week of August, where Berlin quantum technology companies presented themselves to those international talents.

Research institutions and companies opened their doors for company and laboratory visits. A total of 38 students from 29 countries gained exclusive insights into different areas of applied quantum technologies in the capital region.

On 3 August, ten young and established companies from Berlin's quantum technology sector introduced themselves to the future talents at a networking dinner at Berlin Partner's in-house event location "Holzmarkt". Over Berlin specialties such as currywurst from a jar, fresh bowls, and a cool drink, a lively exchange developed quickly among all participants.

In addition to the patronage of the BMBF, the Quantum Future Academy was coordinated by the Humboldt-University of Berlin and the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik (FBH) with the active support of the optics and photonics cluster from Berlin Partner and the regional industry association for optical technologies OpTecBB e.V.
