Berlin is knorke: Ultrasound makes cement greener

Berlin, 27.04.2025 - Sonocrete GmbH, headquartered in Cottbus in Germany’s capital region, is a young, technology-driven company committed to advancing the sustainable transformation of the construction industry. With its patented ultrasound process for concrete production, Sonocrete has developed a solution that delivers both environmental and economic gains. The concept is as smart as it is simple: by applying high-performance ultrasound in a targeted way, the hydration of cement is accelerated – without additional heat or chemical accelerators. The result is concrete that hardens faster, requires less cement and reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 30%.

Founders Dr. Christiane Rößler and Dr. Ricardo Remus developed the technology in the context of academic research and quickly recognized its transformative potential for the construction sector. In 2020, they officially launched Sonocrete with a clear mission: to make construction more sustainable while increasing efficiency in concrete production.

With its base in the capital region, Sonocrete maintains strong ties to Berlin. As a leading innovation hub and a center for sustainable urban development, the German capital provides critical momentum for the construction sector – and represents a key market for climate-friendly technologies. Sonocrete collaborates with research institutions and industry partners in Berlin and views the city as a strategic gateway for further expansion.

The company reached a major milestone with the successful market launch of its first Sonocrete systems, now in operation at multiple precast concrete plants in Germany and across Europe. Beyond its environmental benefits, the technology stands out for its economic performance: faster curing times shorten production cycles and significantly reduce energy consumption – a decisive advantage in an industry facing mounting cost pressures and stricter sustainability requirements.

Sonocrete’s innovative strength has earned widespread recognition. The company received the 2023 Berlin Brandenburg Innovation Awardas well as the Innovation Award for the Concrete Components Supply Industry at the renowned BetonTage conference in Ulm. At the state level, the East German Savings Banks Association named Sonocrete  “Company of the Year” in Brandenburg, honoring both its technological excellence and its entrepreneurial impact in the region.
