Launch of the #ai_berlin hub

Berlin, October 22, 2025 – With 30% of Germany’s 687 AI startups based in the capital, nine AI research institutions, and 15% of all AI professionals in the DACH region living and working in the city, Berlin has firmly established itself as a European powerhouse in artificial intelligence. The launch of the #ai_berlin hub therefore comes as no surprise, but it brings significant new momentum and potential for the city’s growing AI ecosystem.

The #ai_berlin hub will serve as a central point of contact for AI development and application in the Berlin metropolitan region. Supported by the Berlin Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises and implemented by Berlin Partner for Business and Technology, the initiative functions as a platform, accelerator, and showcase for AI innovation. It offers insights, support programs and networking opportunities for players across Berlin’s AI landscape. The long-term goal is to build a future-ready infrastructure that strengthens both the regional ecosystem and Berlin’s global standing as a hub for artificial intelligence.

Located on the CIC Berlin innovation and startup campus, the hub was officially opened by Franziska Giffey, Mayor and Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises, and Dr. Stefan Franzke, CEO of Berlin Partner. Around 100 guests from business, academia and politics attended the event. The celebration continued into the evening with members of Berlin’s innovation clusters and the wider AI community.

“The launch of the #ai_berlin hub is a major step toward strengthening Berlin’s AI ecosystem,” said Dr. Stefan Franzke of Berlin Partner. “Together with our partners, we’re developing strategic guidelines and creating closer links between cutting-edge research, startup innovation and the city’s key application clusters. We warmly invite Berlin-based companies and research institutions to join this initiative.”

In 2025, the hub will receive €725,000 in startup funding from the budget of the Berlin Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises. Berlin Partner’s task is to establish the structures needed for the hub’s independent, long-term operation, working closely with the city’s business community. This ensures that the needs and priorities of local companies and professionals are both heard and addressed. Currently, 32% of Berlin-based companies use artificial intelligence – a figure well above the national average, but one that still leaves considerable room for growth. Whether in commerce, entertainment, industry, healthcare or mobility, the #ai_berlin hub serves as a central resource, pooling knowledge, connections, and opportunities that benefit not only the city’s AI community but a wide range of industries. Exactly what synergies will emerge remains to be seen  – but one thing is already clear: Berlin is taking a holistic approach to artificial intelligence. And anyone who wants to be part of that transformation will find the right place here.
