Toll Collect GmbH

Dr. Rolf Erfurt, CEO of Toll Collect GmbH

1. Describe your company.

Toll Collect stands for smart mobility management. We are toll experts, driving traffic digitalization, creating value from toll data, and supporting the federal government in achieving its climate goals. All from Potsdamer Platz, in the heart of Berlin.

2. Why are you involved as a Berlin-Partner?

Berlin thrives on collaboration – just like we do. As a Berlin Partner, we want to be part of a strong network of business, science, and society that shapes and advances the capital. Regular exchange brings fresh perspectives and new impulses – especially for us as a tech company. We also want to show: at Toll Collect, we’re not only working on smart mobility solutions, but also in an open, modern, and forward-looking environment. Visibility is welcome – after all, the brightest minds should know where things are exciting and challenging.

3. What topics drive you in relation to your industry?

The transformation of transport is in full swing – and we’re helping shape it. With truck tolling, we’re at the heart of the mobility transition: it promotes the use of low-emission vehicles and efficient route planning. At the same time, we’re deeply committed to traffic digitalization. We provide toll system data as open data in compliance with data protection laws – for example, through the new, publicly accessible truck traffic portal and information on truck parking occupancy. We’re also bringing digital control technology to the roads and developing solutions for the digital exchange of freight transport information.

4. Why is Berlin attractive for your company?

Berlin is the perfect place for anyone who wants to rethink mobility – and that’s exactly what we do. The city attracts creative, tech-savvy, and intelligent minds from around the world – a real advantage for our recruitment. At the same time, we’re close to political and societal developments – a key benefit for a company operating on behalf of the federal government. Berlin’s dynamic energy drives us too. The capital stands for progress, diversity, and the courage to change – values that shape our daily work. Here, people experiment, evolve, and often rethink things entirely.

Berlin-Mitte is more than just our company headquarters – it’s our space for resonance. Here, technological innovation and political decision-making come together in close proximity. The Bundestag and federal ministries are just around the corner. We feel this closeness every day, along with the diversity of perspectives, ideas, and people that make Berlin so unique. Things are moving in this city – and with our location at Potsdamer Platz, we’re right in the middle of it. That also makes us an especially attractive employer.

5. How does your company implement sustainability?

At Toll Collect, sustainability isn’t a side issue – it’s a core goal of truck tolling. Those who drive more and use older vehicles pay more. This creates incentives to operate modern fleets.

We also have a clear mission for our own operations: by 2028, we aim to be climate-neutral. Our approach is based on three pillars: avoiding, reducing, and – only when necessary – offsetting emissions. We take a close look at everything: from office energy efficiency and the power consumption of our control systems to emissions from mobile work. Projects like installing solar panels at control points or converting our fleet to electric vehicles show that we don’t just talk – we act. Sustainability is a team effort, and everyone can contribute.
