UdK x Berlin

Berlin, February 19, 2026 – Berlin is known for many things –  including “Four of the best universities in Germany. Five, if you count the streets.”  This line from the city’s international image campaign became the creative springboard for students and faculty at Berlin’s University of the Arts (UdK). The project has resulted in a dynamic body of work that explores how the university and the city shape one another – and how artistic research asserts its place within Berlin’s urban fabric.  The exhibition will be on view February 24–26, 2026, at Masumi Space on Kurfürstendamm 229.

Bringing together a wide range of perspectives, UdK x Berlin  invites visitors to engage in dialogue and discover the artistic and academic practices behind the works of Ana Luiza Anjos; Sara Assadi; the Aureus Quartet of the Julius Stern Institute; Saqib Aziz; Kurt von Bley; Özcan Ertek; Clemens Fischer; Hannah Fischer and Emil Woop; Sally Frey; Haus 8 Kollektiv; Constantin Hartenstein; Marietta Krampitz; Julia Linden and Roxana Öztoprak; HU Jinchi; Seonkyu OH; Les Ateliers de bricolage and the Architecture History and Theory Department; Juyeong Park; Hibiki Ishijima; Ran Ren and Elisabeth Scholz; Simon Ostaschenko; and Dayhe Seo. Curated by Dr. Michaela Conen in collaboration with Insa Ruckdeschel, both members of UdK’s Strategic Marketing Office, the exhibition highlights the creative exchange between Berlin and its university – and underscores the capital’s role as a living laboratory for artistic innovation.

“Berlin is a magnet for ideas, innovation and creative diversity,” said Dr. Stefan Franzke, CEO of Berlin Partner for Business and Technology. “This is where science, culture and business converge to shape a city that constantly reinvents itself. With ‘UdK x Berlin,’ we have created a platform that reimagines the connection between city and university while opening up fresh perspectives. Together, we are strengthening the capital’s profile as a leading creative metropolis and amplifying its visibility through the city’s image campaign.”

Berlin’s Governing Mayor, Kai Wegner, added:  “[…] The dynamic interplay of research and art at the University of the Arts is what makes Berlin a creative hotspot, attracting talent from around the world […].”

The exhibition is a joint initiative of the State of Berlin, Berlin Partner for Business and Technology and UdK Berlin.  It will officially open with an invitation-only reception on February 23, 2026.  From February 24–26, visitors are welcome daily from 1 to 8 p.m. to experience a diverse program of photography, installations, painting and media art. Admission is free.
