Vollack GmbH

Matthias Jordt and Carsten Oschietzky, Partner of Vollack GmbH

1. Please describe your company in a few sentences.

With a nationwide team of 300 employees—about two-thirds of whom come from architecture and engineering disciplines—Vollack is a specialist in the methodical planning, construction, and revitalization of sustainable, energy-efficient buildings in the office, industrial, and healthcare sectors. Depending on the client’s needs, Vollack takes on general planning and project management, delivers turnkey execution, or develops customized rental spaces for companies that prefer not to invest themselves.

2. Why are you engaged as a Berlin-Partner?

We are part of Berlin. We benefit from the advantages of a vibrant metropolis, but we also see ourselves as contributors and promoters of a sustainable, or as we say, “future-proof” real estate landscape. We create modern work environments for the city’s population and aim to facilitate access to these spaces for interested parties through Berlin Partner. As part of a strong Berlin network, we contribute our expertise and commitment to drive innovative projects forward and strengthen the connection between business, science, and administration. If keywords like “modern workspaces, sustainable revitalization, and tailor-made brand buildings” ultimately lead people to think of us, then everyone wins.

3. What topics are driving your industry?

We have been successfully developing, planning, constructing, and revitalizing sustainable buildings for years. We believe that buildings can inspire people, support business processes, and positively contribute to environmental protection. Tailored precisely to the needs and optimized for processes, our Phase NULL® results in unique, client-specific solutions. We work with the latest methods: BIM and LEAN are part of our daily business.

Out of conviction, we take responsibility and actively work with our clients to promote climate protection. Construction, building operations, and the production of building materials account for 30% of CO₂ emissions in Germany. Through intelligent planning and construction, our projects actively ensure energy efficiency, resource conservation, and recycling—up to and including circular economy principles.

4. What makes Berlin special to you?

Berlin is not only the political and cultural heart of the country but also impresses with its green cityscape, interwoven with numerous waterways.

For us, Berlin combines a unique mix of world history—with the inspiring example that walls can be peacefully torn down—vibrant culture, and economic dynamism. For most of our team, it is a hometown in constant transformation, making it consistently exciting and full of energy.

5. Why is Berlin attractive for your company?

Berlin is attractive to businesses due to its central location in Central Europe, excellent infrastructure, and proximity to political decision-makers. The city is a hotspot for science and innovation, with numerous research institutions and universities offering access to cutting-edge knowledge and talent. Its high quality of life and diverse cultural offerings especially attract young professionals, strengthening the labor market. Additionally, Berlin benefits from a dynamic startup scene and a variety of funding programs that support growth and innovation.

6.  What does Berlin represent for you?

The city stands for openness, a spirit of experimentation, constant change, and an entrepreneurial climate that fosters new ideas and attracts talent. Berlin itself is a global brand—thanks in no small part to the unique and consistent capital city marketing by Berlin Partner.

7.  How does your company implement sustainability?

We have been successfully planning and constructing sustainable high-performance buildings for years. By repurposing long-forgotten existing properties and realizing several certified passive house buildings—including the largest in Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia—we’ve created work environments where people feel comfortable, active, and productive.

Sustainable construction has many facets. Resource conservation is a key criterion for ecologically meaningful investment. This includes the selection of building technology and materials. Economic aspects such as operating costs also play an important role. Increasingly, a company’s values serve as a compass for job seekers. Companies that take responsibility—for their employees, customers, and the environment—are in demand.

The best way to save resources and emissions is to preserve existing buildings and adapt them to new uses as needed. Sustainable circular economy and timber construction are therefore gaining importance in the building sector and experiencing growing demand. Their goal is to extend the lifecycle of buildings and minimize the ecological footprint. Waste of resources is out! Recycling and reuse are in!

We develop and plan practical concepts—and implement them successfully.
