Berlin's Quantum Ambitions Cross the Atlantic
Berlin, November 2, 2026 – Berlin is a hotspot for innovation in many fields, and quantum technologies are no exception. Startups such as Kipu Quantum and Akhetonics are among the companies at the forefront of researching, applying and advancing these cutting-edge technologies. Through Berlin Quantum, a joint initiative bringing together businesses, research institutions and universities, the capital region is working to strengthen its international profile as an interdisciplinary hub for quantum technologies. As part of this effort, Berlin Partner, a member of the Berlin Quantum initiative, is organizing a delegation trip to New York and Connecticut from November 2 to 6, 2026. The trip will bring together representatives from Berlin-based companies and research institutions to showcase the city’s quantum technology ecosystem internationally and foster exchange and collaboration. Particular emphasis will be placed on applications of quantum technologies in aerospace, security and defense.
The delegation is traveling at the invitation of Connecticut Governor Ted Lamont and the state's economic development organization, AdvanceCT. During their visit, participants will tour companies and institutions, take part in pitching and networking events and meet key representatives of QuantumCT, Connecticut’s quantum technology innovation initiative.
The delegation’s U.S. visit begins in New York, with stops at the IBM One Madison Avenue Innovation Studio and the Think Lab at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center. The group will then travel to the University of Connecticut, where discussions will focus on the university’s quantum research activities and workforce development. At the RTX Technology Research Center in East Hartford, participants will explore ways to bring quantum technologies from the laboratory into commercial use. The itinerary also includes a series of presentations and discussions organized by QuantumCT, a visit to the Yale Quantum Institute, insights into research at Yale University and a visit to quantum technology company D-Wave Quantum.
Through expert discussions, presentations and networking opportunities, the delegation aims to build international relationships, exchange ideas and lay the groundwork for future partnerships. Berlin’s business representatives share a common goal: to highlight the strengths of the city’s quantum technology ecosystem and showcase Berlin as a leading innovation hub. At the same time, learning from U.S. experts and gaining new perspectives are central to the visit. With applications spanning a wide range of industries, quantum technologies offer significant opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange and continued innovation.
