Ocean Berlin

Kim Schäfer, Marketing Director of Ocean Berlin

1. Please describe your company in a few sentences.

OCEAN BERLIN (opening in spring 2027) is a combination of a large-scale aquarium—the largest in Germany—and a marine museum: a highly modern, international edutainment destination and a visionary competence center for global marine conservation in the heart of the capital.

As part of the renowned Coral World International family, the project combines fascinating, large-scale aquarium environments with innovative exhibition concepts. Key thematic focuses include krill, plankton, and global ocean currents.

For Berlin—and for the MICE segment—this will create an architecturally spectacular event location and a new tourist attraction that conveys an important message: “It’s time to give the ocean a voice".

2. Why are you engaged as a Berlin-Partner?

Berlin is a global metropolis for innovation, science, and education. Through our partnership with Berlin Partner, we anchor OCEAN BERLIN firmly within the city’s economic and social network from day one.

This collaboration enables us to build strategic partnerships with schools, universities, research institutions, and companies. In doing so, we can make our educational offerings accessible to a broad audience and more effectively fulfill our mission—to inspire people to sustainably protect the oceans.

3. Which topics drive you in relation to your industry?

OCEAN BERLIN is driving the visionary evolution of the leisure and tourism sector toward modern, emotionally engaging edutainment. Our goal is to demonstrate that economic success and global ecological responsibility can go hand in hand in an urban environment—because ocean protection begins on land.

4. What makes Berlin special to you?

Berlin embodies the spirit of transformation and change like hardly any other global city. OCEAN BERLIN aims to drive change—encouraging visitors to reflect on their own actions for the benefit of the oceans. This creates a perfect match between OCEAN BERLIN and the capital.

5. Why is Berlin attractive for your company?

Berlin is the ideal location for OCEAN BERLIN, as the capital is one of the world’s leading destinations for the leisure and MICE market, while also being an epicenter for sustainability and societal discourse.

Within this progressive environment, we position ourselves as a forward-looking attraction that combines scientific relevance with economic strength. Here, we find exactly the discerning audience and strategic partners needed to give the ocean a powerful and unmistakable voice.

6.  What does Berlin stand for, in your view?

For us, Berlin stands for courage, diversity, and a strong determination to actively shape the future. It is a city that never settles for the status quo, but instead attracts and advances progressive ideas.

OCEAN BERLIN embodies this same spirit: we see the capital as a place where innovation meets social responsibility. For us, Berlin is the perfect stage—and the loudest megaphone—to give the ocean a voice and to drive global momentum for marine conservation.

7.  How does your company approach sustainability?

At OCEAN BERLIN, sustainability is not an afterthought but the foundation of both our architecture and daily operations. We focus on resource efficiency, including state-of-the-art closed water circulation systems and forward-looking filtration technologies that minimize water and energy consumption.
