Women in Aerospace

Berlin, 4. April 2025 – An industry with a promising future: In the capital region, the aerospace industry has strong economic and scientific potential. Berlin and Brandenburg together represent one of the three most important aerospace regions in Germany. The Women in Aerospace Network Berlin offers women in particular and interested parties of all genders in general the opportunity to network, gain insights into the aerospace and aviation companies in the region and exchange views on current topics.

The Berlin network was founded in 2019 by Juliane Haupt, Head of Unit Information and Communication Technologies at Berlin Partner, and is an official part of Women in Aerospace Europe (WIA-E). Founded in 2009 by Simonetta Di Pippo and Claudia Kessler in cooperation with Women in Aerospace USA, the network’s mission is to connect female professionals in the aerospace industry and increase their visibility, while also promoting gender inclusion and equal opportunities. There are a total of 20 regional WIA networks in Europe. Its offers include online and face-to-face events in which participants advance the joint development of the industry of the future across European borders.

The Berlin WIA network has been managed by Marielies Becker, Senior Project Manager Innovation at Berlin Partner, for several years. Since February 2025, she has been supported by Rachana Mamidi, who works as a software developer at the Berlin-based satellite manufacturer Reflex Aerospace. Marielies Becker and Rachana Mamidi jointly organise regional network meetings four times a year. The events, which always take place at different locations of Berlin and Brandenburg aerospace companies, focus on knowledge transfer through specialist presentations by selected stakeholders as well as uncomplicated and low-threshold networking among participants. For example, Rolls Royce, Reflex Aerospace, AneCom AeroTest and Space Structures GmbH have already hosted the event.

At the beginning of March 2025, another network meeting took place, organised and hosted by Berlin Partner. The participants learned more from Heylen Polo Cano about the upcoming mission of NEUROSPACE GmbH with its lunar rover and received insights from Roxana Dumitru into the work of ParaLoon on space-based solar power (SBSP). Projects that are just as forward-looking as the industry, to whose rapid development and, more importantly, increasing relevance they make a significant contribution.
