The Future of Mobility Starts in Berlin

With around 90,000 electric vehicles on its streets and more than 41,000 installed charging points, Berlin is demonstrating real momentum in the transition to sustainable mobility.  But where does the city truly stand – and what comes next?  These are the questions at the heart of this year’s Capital City Conference on Electric Mobility at Berlin City Hall. Governing Mayor Kai Wegner, patron of the event, will welcome approximately 800 registered participants attending in person and via livestream. The opening address will be delivered by Dr. Severin Fischer, State Secretary at the Berlin Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises. Across two panel discussions, ten experts from business, academia and government will explore key aspects of charging infrastructure. A third panel will focus on market developments in heavy-duty electric commercial vehicles. 

In dedicated dialogue formats, Ute Bonde, Senator for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment, and Henrik Falk, CEO of Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), will share their perspectives.

The closing session will feature Gernot Lobenberg, Head of the Berlin Agency for Electromobility (eMO) at Berlin Partner, and Peter Schwierz, Editor-in-Chief of Berlin-based industry publication electrive. Together, they will reflect on 15 years of electric mobility development – a journey both have been shaping since 2011. Starting this year, the Capital Conference on Electric Mobility will be hosted annually by eMO and has established itself as a leading platform for the electric mobility sector.

An accompanying exhibition at City Hall will showcase solutions for the future of mobility from around 20 companies. Ten of these will present their innovations during the conference in a “one-minute pitch” format.

Electric mobility in Berlin: key figures

Berlin is home to approximately 90,000 electric vehicles (source: eMO estimates based on data from the Federal Motor Transport Authority).  In February 2026, 38% of newly registered passenger cars in the city were electric. A total of 41,000 charging points are currently installed across Berlin — an increase of 28% compared with early 2025.  Of these, more than 7,000 are publicly accessible (source: Berlin Energy Atlas and Stromnetz Berlin, March 2026). At the beginning of 2025, there were around 5,600 public charging points. The majority of charging takes place privately, either at home or in the workplace,  accounting for 70 to 80% of all charging sessions. Berlin currently provides around 457 MW of charging capacity  – a 25% increase compared with early 2025.
