Berlin, October, 27 2025 - At Berlin-based Second Ride, “cultural heritage meets the future” is more than just a motto. The kit’s real strength lies in its versatility: it can be fitted to roughly half of all mopeds worldwide. Simson enthusiasts also benefit from an included partial inspection certificate, making the approval process easier. In this configuration, with a maximum of 5.5 horsepower, the converted e-mopeds are cleared for speeds of up to 60 km/h.
An equally exciting innovation is Second Ride’s proprietary battery technology, for which two patents have already been filed. Instead of replacing the entire battery when its performance declines, individual cells can be swapped out as needed. This not only extends the battery’s lifespan but also makes it more sustainable. The system also boasts one of the best cooling performances on the market, enabling excellent charging times – a key factor in ensuring the everyday usability of electric mopeds.
To electrify a moped with Second Ride’s retrofit kit, only three components are required: a drive module, a battery, and a set of instruments. The kits are compatible with all mid-engine mopeds from brands such as Simson, MZ, Kreidler, Zündapp, Honda, Yamaha, and Peugeot, with more models in the pipeline. For those confident in their DIY skills, the conversion can be done at home using detailed instructions and video tutorials. For everyone else, the retrofit can be handled by their trusted local workshop.
Second Ride’s vision – and its retrofit kits – have already won over a loyal community of moped enthusiasts.
