Berlin goes e-mobile

Berlin, 27 May 2025 – In Berlin, almost 80,000 vehicles are electrically powered. This was determined by the Federal Motor Transport Authority and the Energy Atlas in January 2025. Around 35,000 charging points for electric vehicles in the city ensure charged batteries, of which more than 5,000 are publicly accessible and the rest are used privately, i.e. at home or at work. Berlin is considered an international role model in the field of mobility. To ensure that the city remains in the fast lane, around 800 participants at this year’s Capital City Conference on Electromobility on 28 May 2025 will exchange views on key topics such as the expansion of charging infrastructure, the transport transition, mobility management in companies and the potential of electric commercial vehicles. In addition, around 30 stakeholders from business, science and politics will enrich the programme with their expertise. Alongside Franziska Giffey, Senator for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises, and Ute Bonde, Senator for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment, Berlin’s Governing Mayor Kai Wegner will also be taking part in the event as patron:

“Berlin is a pioneer in electromobility. Thanks to good networking between politics, science and business, major mobility companies such as Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe, the S-Bahn, many private companies and startups are developing innovative solutions for the mobility of tomorrow. They all create jobs and thus improve the quality of life and the environment in our city. The Berlin Senate is promoting this development because we want sustainable and climate-friendly mobility in Berlin. I am delighted to be able to welcome the Capital City Conference on Electromobility to the Rotes Rathaus as its patron and wish you a successful exchange.”

The conference, which will also be broadcast as a livestream, will also see the presentation of the further development of the Electromobility for Economic Funding Programme (WELMO). From 1 June 2025, the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises will also support housing companies in setting up charging infrastructure in publicly accessible and non-publicly accessible areas. The funding is based on the increased need and demand for charging options in rented residential properties. A very positive development, which goes hand in hand with the increasing use of electric vehicles in Berlin’s urban area – and which is also being recognised at the political level with the continuation of the funding programme.

An exciting programme awaits the 800 or so participants on site and those following the event online. In addition to keynote speeches on topics such as electromobility and charging infrastructure (“Electromobility and charging infrastructure – where does Berlin stand?” by Gernot Lobenberg, Head of eMO) or Climate neutrality in the context of electromobility (“Goal: climate-neutral capital city: Committed to advancing electromobility” by Senator Ute Bonde), panel discussions, 1-minute pitches by eMO exhibitors and a concluding get-together offer the opportunity for intensive professional exchange, but also for getting to know each other on a personal level and for sustainable networking.

The Berlin Agency for Electromobility (eMO) is part of Berlin Partner and supports the goals of the State of Berlin in the field of electromobility and the use of new, innovative mobility solutions for sustainable commercial transport. The tasks of the State agency include the dissemination and testing of new mobility solutions and the management of central State projects. The eMO acts as an interface between business, science and the public sector and provides interested parties with information on the topics of electromobility and new mobility in the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region.

“Innovative mobility applications create jobs and strengthen Berlin as a business location. That is why we, as Berlin’s business development agency, are working to support and accompany the transformation process in the transport sector towards more electric and sustainable mobility. With the annual Capital City Conference on Electromobility, we provide all relevant players and stakeholders the big stage to inform themselves, exchange ideas and network. The goal can only be achieved by means of a joint effort,” confirms Dr. Stefan Franzke, Managing Director of Berlin Partner.

Registration for the livestream (online participation) is still possible.
