Berlin Opens New Office in India
Berlin, March 17, 2026 – Berlin is expanding its global footprint. Led by Senator for Economic Affairs Franziska Giffey, a Berlin business delegation will travel to Bengaluru, India, from March 17–20 to inaugurate the capital city’s new representative office. Following New York and Beijing, Bengaluru becomes Berlin’s third international outpost – and the first with a dedicated focus on attracting skilled talent to the German capital. Several Indian institutions have been invited to collaborate closely with Berlin on issues related to sustainable and fair recruitment practices.
The launch builds on an earlier visit to India in July 2025, when Senator Giffey signed an agreement on economic cooperation between the State of Berlin and the Indian state of Karnataka. Bengaluru, Karnataka’s capital and future home of the Berlin India Office, is a city of 13 million people and widely regarded as India’s “Silicon Valley.” In addition to its globally recognized IT and electronics sectors, Bengaluru is a leading center for biotechnology, aerospace and electric mobility. International companies such as Mercedes-Benz, SAP and Continental maintain a strong presence in the region. Berlin and Karnataka have cultivated close economic ties for several years, and the new liaison office is expected to further deepen that relationship.
The expanded presence in India is a cornerstone of Berlin’s internationalization strategy. Senator Giffey views India as a key partner in advancing Berlin’s global engagement, particularly in future-focused industries.[1] The delegation’s program reflects this ambition: alongside the official opening and press conference, participants will attend networking events, roundtables and exchange formats, and visit Bellatrix Aerospace, one of India’s emerging space-tech companies. The delegation includes Dr. Stefan Franzke, CEO of Berlin Partner for Business and Technology; David Kremers, Head of Talent at Berlin Partner; Jeannine Koch, CEO of medianet; Laura Möller, founder and CEO of the transfer platform UNITE; and Dr. Karsten Mühlenfeld, Managing Director of the Berlin Brandenburg Aerospace Allianz.
Berlin’s internationalization strategy notes that “India is rapidly emerging as a global player in artificial intelligence, biotechnology and digitalization.” Berlin already offers deep expertise in these sectors – and even greater potential for future growth. During the visit, the delegation is also showcasing investment opportunities and career prospects across the German capital region. With the new office in Bengaluru, Berlin gains a direct channel to one of South Asia’s most dynamic innovation ecosystems – reinforcing the city’s commitment to global connectivity as a response to today’s economic and technological challenges.
