Siemens AG

Stefan Kögl, Lead Siemensstadt 2.0, Siemens AG

1. Why are you involved as a Berlin Partner?

Siemens was founded in Berlin more than 170 years ago. The development of Siemensstadt, a district of the city that has even borne the company's name ever since, began as early as the end of the 19th century. So Siemens has been a partner of the city from the very beginning and has always seen itself as such. This can now be clearly seen in the development of the new Siemensstadt, where we will develop a 100-football-field industrial area, which has been closed to date, into a modern and open urban district. This further development of Siemensstadt is also being carried out in a very cooperative and cooperative manner, both with the responsible authorities and committees of the city and district, and with the residents and citizens of Berlin - as Berlin Partner.

2. The world is changing. How are you changing the world?

The new Siemensstadt will be a digitally planned and built location, in which digitisation will also play a decisive role in everyday life. Innovative mobility concepts and solutions for climate protection will play a role here, as will the possibilities of the Internet of Things (IoT) or artificial intelligence. From day one, the new Siemens City was conceived as the neighbourhood of tomorrow, a smart district in which the technologies of tomorrow are not only developed, but also tested and lived. In short, we are redefining the city as a living space.

3. What is "typical Berlin" for you?

As a new Berliner and head of the Siemensstadt project, I am fascinated above all by the spirit of optimism that can be experienced everywhere - this forward thinking, this vibrant and future-oriented thinking that characterises Berlin. To plan and realise a completely new neighbourhood of the future - that simply fits perfectly with this cosmopolitan metropolis. That is "typical Berlin" for me and that is what makes this city and this project so attractive, which is one of the reasons why we chose the slogan "Open for new things".

4. One more question: How will your project define the "New Brand Berlin"?

The new Siemens City creates connections. Between yesterday, today and tomorrow. Between work and life. Between science, education, research and development. Between Siemens, its partners, customers and the people of the city. Between Berlin and the world. That is what defines the new Berlin brand for me. A brand that radiates far beyond the city's borders.
